France Identité enables you to have an electronic health insurance card (carte Vitale)

The health insurance card (carte Vitale) enables you to:

• access the same healthcare services (medical consultation, prescription of medicines in pharmacies, etc.) as with your physical health insurance card (carte Vitale);
• check your healthcare expenses.

Create your electronic health insurance card (carte Vitale) in just a few minutes with France Identité. Once the carte Vitale app is activated, it will automatically know that you use France Identité and will invite you to check your identity against your digital identity.
 

How do you check your identity with France Identité?

To activate the carte Vitale app with France Identité, you need to:

1. Download the carte Vitale app and begin the process to activate it
2. When you reach the identity checking step, click the "Identify me with France Identité" option. You will be redirected to the France Identité app.
3. Scan your identity card.
4. Enter your personal code.
5. Launch contactless reading of your identity card.

You will then be redirected to the carte Vitale app to finish activating your health insurance card (carte Vitale).

If you do not have a credit card-sized identity card, the carte Vitale app will be rolled out gradually from May 2025 onwards. Those covered by French health insurance will have access to the process currently used in 23 French departments where the app has already been rolled out.
