France Identité is 1 year old: the app can now be used for travel ticket checks on-board SNCF (French National Railway Company) trains

A year after its launch, the France Identité App reaches a new milestone. As of today, all TGV INOUI (high-speed trains) and Intercités (regional trains) travellers who have France Identité can prove their identity and their right to travel during on-board checks by using the app to replace their proof of identity and travel ticket.  
 

This new use, the result of a year's joint work between France Titres, the French authority for secure documents and SNCF Voyageurs, the French National Railway Company's subsidiary that operates passenger trains, addresses users' strong demand to simplify and better secure document use. They can now show their identity and their travel ticket in one easy step.

 

A simple, secure process for faster checks on-board SNCF trains 

Travellers can now show a secure QR code, using the France Identité App, which contains the information required to check their ticket (first name, last name and date of birth), without revealing any other personal data.
 

Who can use this service?

Any user who has the France Identité App and who travels on a booked TGV INOUI or Intercités train. This service is extremely useful for regular travellers, TGV INOUI season ticket and SNCF discount card holders. The conductor can check the person's identity and travel ticket in one easy step.

 

What are the benefits for users?

• Only the information that is strictly required is shared. No other data present on the French national identity card (card number, address, photo) is transmitted, meaning users are protected from risk of fraud and identity theft.   
• The process is quick and easy, exactly the same as showing an electronic ticket, and works offline.

France Identité is the official, free app that enables citizens to have their digital ID card and driving licence on their smartphone. The France Identité app, available since February 2024 for users over the age of 18, who have a credit card-sized ID card and compatible phone, lets you prove your identity online and in-person.

• Generate single-use identification documents without revealing all your personal data, a secure alternative to photocopying your ID card;
• Prove your identity in-person using a digital ID card;
• Show your digital driving licence during roadside checks; 
• Easily access the French caf.fr, ameli.fr, ants.gouv.fr, impots.gouv.fr sites, as well as over 1,800 online services (via FranceConnect) securely without entering credentials;
• Access the most sensitive administrative procedures using your digital ID certified by your town hall: 100% electronic proxy voting and services via FranceConnect+ (MaPrimeRénov’ (French State energy renovation aid), monCompteFormation (My training account), etc.).
