Use a France Identité single-use identification document for your driving licence procedures

Since 16 October 2024, you can use France Identité and its single-use identification document for your driving licence procedures.

The single-use identification document is a pdf that is electronically-signed by the French Ministry for the Interior. It is used to prove your identity without having to show your actual identification document, to give users back control of the data they share and it is a means for tackling fraud.

You no longer need to complete your identification document when carrying out driving licence procedures. Just scan the QR Code displayed on your computer screen (or click the link if you are on a smartphone) to generate the document. This identification document includes your photo, which is required for driving licence procedures.

How does it work?

When applying for a driving licence, at the "supporting documents" step:

  • Choose "I'll add a France Identité identification document"
  • Scan the QR Code displayed on your computer screen (click "generate the document" if you are on a smartphone)

  • Check the data that will be displayed on the identification document
  • Scan the CAN code (6 digit code on the bottom left) of your ID card
  • Enter your personal code
  • Launch NFC reading of your ID card
  • Once your identification document has been generated, you can add it to your driving licence procedure.
