Urgent diplomatic passport

An urgent diplomatic passport is a travel document issued on an exceptional basis for reasons of overriding necessity or urgency.

What is the purpose of an urgent diplomatic passport?

This is a travel document that makes it easier for its holder to travel to certain countries to carry out their duties.

It is requested in exceptional circumstances and for reasons of overriding necessity or urgency.

An emergency diplomatic passport is issued for a maximum period of one year. It may only be used for the purposes for which it was issued.

It is returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs when its validity expires or when its use is no longer justified.
The diplomatic passport certifies the identity and French nationality of its holder.

 

What are its main features?

The diplomatic passport includes the following information:

  • The last name, first and middle names in the order given in vital records, date and place of birth, sex and, if the person concerned so requests, the name authorised by law
  • Eye colour, height
  • Nationality
  • Dates of issue and expiry
  • The passport number
  • It also includes the holder's digital signature and image.

To facilitate rapid delivery of the diplomatic passport, this document does not have an electronic component.
