The POTENTIAL Consortium: Towards a European digital identity wallet

POTENTIAL Consortium, 19 December 2022, ANTS Communications Department

The POTENTIAL Consortium has been selected by the European Commission for its European digital identity wallet project

On 14/12/2022, the European Commission announced the results of the call for tenders for the European Digital Identity Wallet. The POTENTIAL Consortium is delighted to announce that its proposal, submitted in August 2022, has been selected by the European Commission.

148 participants from 19 EU Member States and Ukraine, supported by their governments, have come together in the POTENTIAL Consortium to pilot the new European Digital Identity Wallet prototype in six use cases ('digital public services', 'opening a back account ', 'SIM card registration', 'mobile driving licence', 'qualified remote electronic signatures' and 'e-prescribing'). The POTENTIAL Consortium is committed to deploying these pilot programmes with ambition and determination.

The ANTS, as coordinator of the consortium, and all the members of POTENTIAL are proud to have been entrusted by the European Commission with the implementation of these pioneering European digital identity use cases, which will be tested across borders. Discussions are now underway with DG CONNECT with a view to signing the grant agreement and preparing for the launch of the project, scheduled for early May 2023.
