A new milestone for France Identité

France Identité is entering the final stage of its beta phase with the launch of its incubation programme.

On Monday 13 November 2023, Dominique Faure, French Minister responsible for Local Authorities and Rural Affairs, launched the France Identité-certified digital identity pilot run from Boulogne-Billancourt Town Hall in three departments: Eure-et-Loir, Rhône and Hauts-de-Seine.

France Identité-certified digital identity

The main aim is to enable users to remotely access sensitive procedures that could not be carried out electronically until now and, at the same time, ensure a level of security on a par with in-person appointments.

The first procedure provided by the certification is 100% electronic proxy voting for the 2024 European elections.

How do you get your France Identité digital identity certified?

Your identity is certified following an identity check carried out in your local town hall in-person with a municipal officer. This identity check confirms that the user who presents their France Identité digital identity is the rightful owner of the of the French identity card attached to the account.

Before going to the town hall, you must first launch your application for certification via your app to obtain a QR code.

Once your QR code has been generated:

  1. You must go to the town hall you have chosen, with or without an appointment (Access the list of town halls referenced and how to make an appointment);
  2. Your identity is then checked when you meet with a municipal officer and show them your identity card and your QR code.

You will be notified by email and in your app of the result of your certification application, 24 to 48 hours after your check in the town hall.

100% electronic voting proxy

Once you have your certified digital identity, you can electronically appoint a proxy to vote for you in the European elections on 9 June 2024.
