With France Identité, you can access your digital driving licence along with your national identity card and your vehicle registration document directly on your smartphone. All types of licence (three-part ones and credit card size) are compatible.

The procedure for importing your driving licence into the app is now easier. You no longer need to launch NFC reading of your ID card, you just have to unlock your smartphone.

This update serves several purposes:

  • To make importing the document easier and quicker;
  • To reduce NFC reading failures caused by incorrect positioning of the ID card or the smartphone's hardware limitations;
  • To make it easier to use the app.

How do you import your driving licence to France Identité?

There are two ways to do this:

  • by using your application number written on your driving licence (i.e. NEPH - standardized prefecture registration number);
  • or by using a ADCS (Secure Driving Rights Certificate).

Importing your licence using your driving licence application number (whether it is a three-part one or a credit card size one)

  1. When the app Homepage is displayed, click "Import your licence" and choose "Enter the application number displayed on your licence", then click "Continue";
  2. Choose the format of your driving licence;
  3. Then the layout of your application number (with or without a space);
  4. Then consent to the processing of your data;
  5. Agree to use the new way to import your driving licence by simply unlocking your smartphone;
  6. Check the data you have imported, then click "Add".

Your driving licence is now imported into your France Identité app. This provides you with more information displayed on your digital licence than via the procedure using your ADCS (Secure Driving Rights Certificate).

Importing your driving licence using your ADCS (Secure Driving Rights Certificate)

  1. Get your ADCS (Secure Driving Rights Certificate) from the Mes points permis (Driving licence points) site;
  2. Open your ADCS (Secure Driving Rights Certificate) and scan the QR Code on the document using the France Identité app;
  3. Your driving licence is now imported.

Important: if your driving licence has been suspended or revoked, you cannot import it into the app.

Using your digital driving licence

Today, the digital driving licence can be used during a roadside check conducted by national internal security forces. Users will soon have the opportunity to integrate their driving licence data into a document proving they are entitled to drive, when carrying out online administrative procedures or renting a vehicle.

It meets several goals:

  • to reduce physical licence loss and theft;
  • to enable users to complete administrative procedures without having to disclose all their personal data;
  • to tackle fraud, in particular during online administrative procedures.

This digital licence does not replace the physical licence but is complementary and simplifies road uses.

Important: To activate the France Identité app, you must be at least 18 years old, have a credit card-sized ID card, have a compatible smartphone: at least Android 11 with NFC technology or iOS 16.6.
