Renewing your identification documents: think ahead!

As school exams and summer holidays come around, periods when there is great demand for identification documents, we advise you to think ahead when applying for or renewing your French national identity card or passport.

Two steps can make it easier to apply for secure identification documents.

 

1. Use the online pre-application

This lets you make an online pre-application via the France Titres site dedicated to passport and national identity card procedures. This optional procedure significantly speeds up the time required when you go to your local town hall.

 

2. Make an appointment in the town hall of your choice

You must then make an appointment in a town hall. To do so, visit the national town hall appointment-making platform (in French). This research engine developed by France Titres shows you the appointments available in the geographical area of your choice for the next 3 months. You just need to enter:

  • your location;
  • the reason for your appointment;
  • the number of people concerned by the application.

Please note that you must submit your application and collect your identification document from the same town hall.
